ABOUT SAVAGE DIGEST

“Collect the series to find out!”
DANNY KORVES
Welcome to Savage Digest! I’m Danny Korves, lifelong comic book fan, collector, researcher, and the creator of Savage Digest. This site grew from my fascination with the incredible worlds created by Robert E. Howard and the many writers and artists who have carried his characters into comic books for generations.
Like many fans, my journey began with Conan the Barbarian, but it certainly didn’t end there. Over the years, that interest expanded into the larger world of Howard’s creations, including Kull of Atlantis, Solomon Kane, Bran Mak Morn, El Borak, and others. Savage Digest also follows characters and worlds that have become closely connected with Howard’s legacy in comics, particularly Red Sonja and the ever-expanding sword-and-sorcery genre.
My favorite part of the hobby is digging deeper. I enjoy researching characters, locations, creators, publication histories, and the little connections hidden inside these stories. A comic book might take twenty minutes to read, but it can lead to hours of research. Who is that obscure character? Where did this kingdom first appear? Is that scene a reference to an old Robert E. Howard story? Those questions are a large part of what eventually became Savage Digest.
What You’ll Find on Savage Digest
Savage Digest is more than a collection of comic book reviews. I’ve been building the site into a reference library for fellow fans of Robert E. Howard and sword-and-sorcery comics. Along with reviews, you’ll find character profiles, maps, timelines, creator information, publication details, statistics, AI artwork, and other reference material collected from the strange and savage worlds I encounter along the way.
My reviews are written from the perspective of a fan rather than a professional critic. Sometimes a comic earns five stars. Sometimes I wonder what in Crom’s name I just read. Either way, I try to explain what worked, what didn’t, and—most importantly—whether I had a good time reading it.
I have a particular appreciation for the classic Marvel Comics era of Conan and The Savage Sword of Conan, but Savage Digest isn’t trapped in the past. I also follow modern interpretations from publishers such as Titan Comics and Dynamite Entertainment, along with older series, adaptations, one-shots, and the occasional obscure treasure that deserves another look.
By Crom, There’s Always Another Issue to Read!
Savage Digest is ultimately my personal journey through decades of sword-and-sorcery comics. I’m not trying to build the definitive encyclopedia of the Hyborian Age. I’m simply documenting what I discover, sharing my opinions, and creating the kind of reference site that I would enjoy exploring myself.
So grab your sword, keep an eye out for Stygian sorcerers, and make yourself comfortable.
There are always more stories waiting beyond the next ruined temple.
